Travel Letters from La Paz
MARCH EDITION 2026
Hi there, and welcome to Café del Mundo here in La Paz, Bolivia 🤍
There’s a special feeling in the city right now. It’s hard to explain. Maybe a small sense of emptiness, but in a good way. A calm after the storm.
The year started intensely. Carnival preparations were everywhere. Costumes, rehearsals, music in the streets, energy in every corner. And then… suddenly, it was over. And what stayed behind wasn’t chaos; it was calm.
A good, necessary kind of calm.
Now La Paz feels lighter. Slower. You can feel it in the mornings, in the streets, even inside the café. March has arrived, more grounded! It feels like the perfect moment to breathe a little deeper and prepare for new adventures in the city without rushing.
When Early Mornings Feel Like a Celebration
This morning, a group of Japanese travelers walked in early, straight from the overnight bus from the Salt Flats. It was barely 8 a.m., but they were smiling, a little tired, and very ready to eat. And not just a little breakfast. Burgers. Pasta. Salad. And yes… beers.
They were celebrating the end of an incredible adventure in the Salar de Uyuni, but also the beginning of a few beautiful days here in La Paz. I loved their mood. No rush. No stress. Just sitting together, slowly eating, laughing, planning their next days in the city. The café felt quiet, almost soft around them.
At one point, a bit shy, they told me:
“Japanese people like beer… but we don’t usually drink it at 8 in the morning.”
We all laughed. But this is the beauty of traveling. You change routines. You bend the rules a little. You celebrate the small things and the big ones. You sit longer than you normally would. You make ordinary hours feel special.
That’s what I see every day at these tables. And honestly, it’s beautiful.
It’s Time for New Brunches Around the World
The end of February and March have slowed us down a little at Café del Mundo, in the best way. And when the city becomes calmer, it’s the perfect moment for us to create something new. And this month is all about brunches.
For the past weeks, we’ve been tasting, testing, adjusting. We’ve asked travelers for their honest opinions. We’ve changed dishes we thought would be amazing… but weren’t quite there yet. And after a lot of small tweaks (and a lot of eating), we finally landed on six new favorites.
Flavors inspired by different corners of the world, but served right here in La Paz. That’s our March focus at Café del Mundo, and we’re very happy to share it with you. So next time you’re in the café, ask for the new brunch menu. I really hope you’ll love it as much as we do!
