A Morning at a Café in La Paz: Travel Letters from La Paz

APRIL EDITION 2026

Hello from the city of La Paz!

April is already here, and it begins strongly with the full Easter celebration. It’s a different, but very beautiful, time to be here in the city. If you are here now, make sure to read our travel blog post on what’s going on and how to make the most of your Easter days in La Paz. And also, here at Café del Mundo, we’re open as usual, ready to welcome you for a coffee, breakfast, or just a moment to recharge your batteries before heading out to explore again.

But April is also a month of change here. The rainy season, which hasn’t been too intense this year, is slowly leaving us. At the same time, summer fades, and we move into autumn. As a Swedish person, I’m used to big, clear shifts between seasons. Here, it’s different. The changes are more discreet.  It gets darker a bit earlier. The temperature shifts and the sunset’s colors over the city and Illimani look a little different. It kind of just happens, slowly, but honestly, it's a very welcome change.

Mornings at Café del Mundo

Even though a lot has changed in the city during April, the mornings feel just the same.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I really love the mornings here. It’s cooler outside, the air feels fresh, and inside the café it smells like coffee, lots of coffee, mixed with the soft scent of breakfast: eggs, pancakes, fresh bread. Everything feels calmer, cozier… slower.

Mornings are also when many travelers experience La Paz for the very first time. They come in early, by plane or night buses, often before they can check in to their hotel or hostel, and sit down for breakfast with time to breathe. You can almost see it, they’re planning their next steps and their first adventures in the city.

If I can, I love sitting down with them in that moment. Sharing a few tips, but more than anything, just welcoming them to La Paz, this magical, mysterious place. So if you see me around the café in the mornings… or honestly, anytime, come say hi. Ask questions, get tips, or just share your plans. I’m always happy to help you make the most of your time here.

Slow Brunch & What’s Next

And last but not least, our brunches are finally out, as I mentioned last week.

So if you’re around, pass by. Stay a while. Enjoy a brunch with flavors from around the world, and maybe a mimosa to top off the day. It’s the perfect little pause, time to relax, settle in, and plan your next adventure.

And if you want to stay updated, have a look at our Travelzine. If you’re in or around La Paz, you’re also very welcome to join our WhatsApp group, where we share what’s going on in the city and little things you might not want to miss.

Hope to see you around
